This Game park is located in Mbarara. It officially became a national park in 1983, a decision that led to the eviction of the local Banyankore pastoralists without compensation. Before its modern conservation history, oral tradition holds that the area was once a valley occupied by two brothers, Mburo and Kigarama, which was later named after the brother who drowned when the valley flooded. Activities here include; Hiking and Nature walks, Bird watching, Horse riding among others.
This is where you view interesting various species of birds both local and international. Lake Mburo National Park is a prime bird-watching destination in Uganda, with over 350 bird species supported by its diverse habitats of wetlands, acacia woodland, and savannah. Key birding spots include the swamps of Warukiri and Miriti, the roadsides between Rwonyo camp, The Jetty and Rubanga Forest.
In 1910, this park was called Bunyoro game reserve.The park was officially named in 1952 when it became Uganda’s first and largest national park. It was named after the falls, which were explored by Europeans in the 1860s and named by Samuel Baker after the geologist Roderick Murchison.
This park is a two overnight trip which is 03days. 1st day is 06hrs drive from Kampala city to west Nile where the park is found.

This Park was established in 1952 as Kazinga National park and was renamed in 1954 to honor a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. The park’s creation involved combining the Lake George and Lake Edward game reserves.
This park is a 03days trip which covers the hotsprings at Kabalega, spotting the climbing lions and leopards at Ishasha.
ACTIVITIES AT THIS PARK
Game drive especially the tree climbing lions in Ishasha, boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel, bird watching and chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge. Visitors can also go on guided nature walks, explore the Maramagambo forest, observe traditional salt mining at Lake Katwe.
